A fantasy life for Fantasia


Singer and actress Fantasia Barrino is having the time of her life from winning the third season of American Idol to an award winning singer to a Broadway star.

Barrino a native of High Point, North Carolina, is from a family of singers. The family had recorded songs for a local label and went in different parts of America promoting the song. Despite of the their travelling, Fantasia still managed to attend school. But she stopped going to school when she was raped by her classmate and got pregnant at age of 16.

Fantasia's first singe after her victory "I Believe" debuted number on in the Billboard Hot 100. Her 'Free Yourself' album is a certified platinum.

In 2006, Fantasia released her second album 'Fantasia' and was a certified gold album with her single 'When I See u' topping the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip -Hop Songs when it was released and stayed on top for eight weeks. That same year, her album was nominated in three categories in the Grammy's.

In 2008, she went to Broadway and played Celie in the musical The Color Purple. She won an award playing Celie in the Theatre World Award. In 2010, she released her third studio album 'Back To Me' with her carrier single 'Bittersweet' went straight to the top ten of the R&B charts and won her a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Fantasia also starred in a reality show based on her over VH1 'Fantasia for Real. It only run for two seasons but got rave reviews and ratings.

In 2011, Fantasia was to play the great Mahalia Jackson in a biopic based on the book 'Got to Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel' when she got pregnant by a married man that the estate of Mahalia Jackson didn't like it and the producers were dismayed that Fantasia did not tell them about her pregnancy. But the good news she got after not playing the much coveted role as Mahalia Jackson, another queen, R&B Queen Aretha Franklin announced that she is thinking to cast Fantasia to play her in an upcoming biopic.

Fantasia went through the downs and the ups of her life, but with that powerful voice that won her the trust of the viewers and the crown to be an American idol, Fantasia will stay in this business for a very long time. Slowly but surely, Fantasia is inching her way up and to be there with all the queens and be the queen of R&B someday.
